Top Track And Field Events For 2009
The BAAA recently released its 2009 calendar and some of the major events include the Carifta Track and Field Championships from April 10-13 in St. Lucia; the World Youth Champion-ships from July 8-12 in Bressanone, Italy; the inaugural Caribbean Games from July 13-19 in Trinidad and Tobago, and the IAAF World Outdoor Championships from August 15-23 in Berlin, Germany.
The World Championships should be interesting for Bahamian track and field fans as high jumper Donald Thomas will try to defend his title after a somewhat disappointing season that began with an injury in 2008.
Quarter-miler Chris Brown has says he is determined to reach the podium in the open men’s 400m after being edged for third at the 2007 World Championships and again at the 2008 Olympics.
Meanwhile, The Bahamas men’s 4x400m relay will gear up for another showdown with the United States, Jamaica, Great Britain, Australia and a few other countries that are strong in the men’s mile relay.
Then there are both the women and men’s 4x100 relay teams that are both in a transition stage and are looking for the right combinations.
