Brown Selected For MEAC Hall-Of-Fame

By Gerrino Saunders

Journal Sports Writer

From winning an Olympic silver medal in August, to wedding bliss in November and now Bahamian track and field star Chris 'Fireman' Brown has been selected for induction into the 2009 Mid Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Hall-Of-Fame.

On January 27 Brown who attended Norfolk State University received a letter from Dennis Thompson, commissioner of the conference that is based in Virginia informing him of his selection.

The letter said, "You are being inducted because of your outstanding success as an athlete in the MEAC, and for your superb professional achievements in your community and state."

The official MEAC Hall-Of-Fame reception and induction ceremony will be held Thursday march 12, 2009 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Thompson said to Brown that he hopes he is able to make room on his busy track and field schedule to attend the event with his family and friends. The induction ceremony would be held the same week as the MEAC men and women's basketball tournament.

During an exclusive interview with Brown who we woke from a nap on Monday afternoon following a hard workout session with his coach Innocent Egbunike, brown said he was proud when he learned that he was selected for induction and that the reality was still sinking in.

"It feels good to know that with God as my guide I have been making the right moves and making the right decisions in my life and that is why this is possible," said Brown.

He said he has every intention on making it to the ceremony even if he has to make some adjustments to his track and field schedule.

"During my career at Norfolk State I never thought about making it to the Hall-Of-Fame. I know we always here about Hall-Of-Famer but it just wasn't on my mind back then, and for them to recognize me at such a young age says a whole lot, especially with the honour coming from another country other than my own," said Brown.
